Matthew Aquilina awarded funding to visit collaborators

Dr Katherine Dunn’s PhD student Matthew Aquilina has been awarded funding to support a visit to collaborators in Poland.

The funding is provided by the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) via the Saltire Emerging Researcher Visit scheme, which promotes mobility between Scotland and European research partners.

Matthew will use the funding to visit Professor Jonathan Heddle’s laboratory, at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology of Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. During his eight-week stay in early summer 2022, Matthew will work with Prof. Heddle’s team to study synthetic DNA nanostructures that will ultimately be applied in a new medical diagnostic technology. The visit will enhance links between the research groups, leading to sustained future collaboration.

The University of Edinburgh and Jagiellonian University are both members of the Una Europa alliance, which exists to support and promote links between the member universities.

Congratulations to Matthew on the successful funding application!
